WHY SUPPORT ART AND CULTURE?
There are three principles of Quest Club presentations to which I subscribe: First, I feel that when
a topic is assigned by the Program Committee, that's
it. It is not subject to negotiation. It is not up
for discussion. It is a matter of principle, of
intellectual honesty and honor to accept. Secondly,
I am one of those who feels that topics assigned should
be outside the normal realm of the Quester's professional
life. Therefore I would like to thank the program
committee for allowing me the opportunity to abide by
these principles. I would like to thank them; but
frankly, gentlemen, is it too late to change the topic
to "Current Trends in Hospital Financing"?
And I believe in a third principle of a Quest Club
presentation - audience participation. More on that
Why support art and culture? It seems hardly
worth a 30-minute paper to answer such a simple question.
Four succinct answers immediately come to mind: (1) Doesn't
everyone? (2) We've always done it before! (3) It seemed
