When I became a member of the Club a year ago, I was told that a paper
would be assigned to me for sometime in this season. And that it would
probably be in some area with which I am not familiar so that some research
would be necessary. You can imagine my surprise and joy to be assigned a
topic in my own field of endeavor and to be asked to research a question
which has intrigued me for several years. Let me express my thanks to the
committee for forcing me to do what I should have been doing on my own. The
value of this paper is in what it has already done for me; any help it may
be to any of you as members of churches and synogogues is purely an extra
The date is the last meeting of the Quest Club before Christmas and I
suspect that this is not accidental on the part of the committee. I toyed
with the idea of combining a Christmas message with the topic but found
that to be impractical. Simply let me say to all of you: "May you and
yours have a Merry Christmas."
Since it is also customary to wish people a Happy New Year, may I
extend those greetings also. We have heard much in the past few months
about the decade of the 70»s. So let my greeting be: "May the next ten
years bring you individual health and happiness and may your life be an
inspiration and a help to those who travel the road of life with you."
Each writer interprets his topic according to his own personal point
of view. I could write about religious actions that are part of the contemporary scene in Fort Wayne: the Interchurch Housing Corporation,
Operation Friendship, the Coffee House approach to young people, the Migrant
Ministry, Project Commitment, and so forth. This would be interesting and
flattering to those of you who are involved in them. But all of these have £*•*-—'
